The Place in the Park

The White House (The White House), also known as the White House, is the official residence and office of the President of the United States. It is a white neoclassical style building located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue northwest of Washington, D.C., covering an area of about 7.3 million square meters, from the main building and east, The western wings consisted of three parts. In 1812, when British and American forces occupied Washington, they set fire to buildings including the U.S. Capitol and the Presidential Palace. Later, to cover the traces of the fire, the red-brown stone walls of the presidential residence were painted white in 1814, and in 1902 it was officially named the White House by President Theodore Roosevelt. Now, because the US president lives and works here, the term &quot;White House&quot; often refers to the United States government.
